The start of our journey was during the Covid Pandemic when we supported vulnerable families by delivering food parcels across Shrewsbury. This led to the creation of a Community Food share in conjunction with Shrewsbury Food Hub and establishing a communty freezer centre at the Martin Wilson School in Castlefields, Shrewsbury. At the same time as supporting families with food we also raised funds to supply technology to support remote learning before the availability of Government equipment was made available.
It was evident that as time went on that many families were struggling and as the year 2020 drew near its close we recognised that for many the increased stress and hardship was not offering much hope of a "Merry Christmas" . With the support both financially and volunteering of the Shropshire Freemasons along with additional donations from Shrewsbury Food Bank and the Rotary Club, we decided to send out Christmas present parcels to over 200 children who had been supported with food parcels and vouchers during the year.
With the need to raise money and ensure that our work could expand and be accountable the Severn Community Charitable Trust was established on the 3rd August 2020 (Charity number: 1190695).
Since then we have increased our projects to include "The BabyStop" baby Share and Reach. Our C"Christmas Presence" project has just succesfuly completed its third year and now distribute Christmas presents to over 250 children in temporary accomodation and refuges across Shropshire. We now manage an income of over £15,000 and in January 2023 are hoping to move into new premises to expand our support for young people even further.
